Lead Pastor

Anthony Rodriguez has served as Valley Hope’s lead pastor since Fall 2011. Anthony graduated from Montreat College and stayed in the area to continue serving Valley Hope in its earliest stages, serving as a preacher and Vision Team member. He worked with teens in Asheville for two years before moving with his family to Cape Town, South Africa for a year. Upon returning from their year of missions abroad in 2009, Anthony resumed his seminary pursuits in earnest at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte while serving as a preacher and college ministry intern at Valley Hope. Anthony completed his MA in Christian Thought and was officially commissioned as pastor by the Presbytery of the Mid-Atlantic of the EPC in the Spring of 2012 and ordained as Teaching Elder in 2017. Anthony serves Valley Hope as a preacher and pastor and by leading the elder team. Anthony and the elders are responsible for discerning and communicating Valley Hope’s vision while caring for and equipping the people for the work of the Gospel in whatever context God calls them.

Anthony married his best friend, Erin, in 2006, following his graduation from Montreat. Together they have three beautiful daughters, Ryann, Alethia, and Hope and one son, Valor. Erin is a woman of strength and passionate prayer, caring for moms and young women even as she leads her own four young children. She is also a teacher in the three-year-olds class at Montreat Morning School.

The Rodriguez family loves Valley Hope and is thrilled to be in Black Mountain, continuing to invest in the community that has given so much to them.

Church Life Director

Jeremiah is a native son of Black Mountain. He and his wife, Becky, met at Montreat College and have two children, Ellen and Jude. They are passionate about seeing Jesus transform the Swannanoa Valley through the expression of Gospel hope in every area of their lives, from the arts to schools to the everyday lives of the members of Valley Hope. Jeremiah helps to lead the small group ministries of Valley Hope, emphasizing the missional call on all of the people of our church. He also helps organize and administrate the life of our small, but busy church.

Children's Ministry

Matt and Katie met at Montreat College, while attending classes in Outdoor Education.  They are both firm believers in the power of the wilderness experience to shape the soul and deepen relationships.  It is their desire for the children of Valley Hope to encounter the theology of a living God and to learn his voice and his ways.  They are the proud parents of four children, Anna, Elliot, Levi, and Henry.

Elders are called to serve as Under-Shepherds to the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5). At Valley Hope, they lead by example in their own lives, by serving and caring for all the people of the church. Elders are called to pastor and care for the people, and meet twice a month to oversee the general work of the church.
Elders and deacons are nominated by a nominating committee and approved by the congregation based on their character and their training for their particular roles.

Andrew and his wife Anna have been attending Valley Hope since 2015. As an elder, Andrew is passionate about serving the people of Valley Hope. He desires to encourage the church to make Christ preeminent in all things, in relationships to one another and in our engagement with the community surrounding the church.

David and Crystal have been attending Valley Hope since 2008. David is humbled to be called to serve as Elder within God's church at Valley Hope. David believes church leadership should put the teachings of Jesus and biblical scripture at the forefront of any oversight and shepherding within the church and while serving within the congregation.

Wes and Jenny joined Valley Hope in 2010 and have been grateful to be part of our church's growth over the last 7 years. Wes is excited to serve in the leadership and future vision of the church as God continues to draw us into the communities of the Swannanoa Valley.

Rick has been attending Valley Hope since 2010. Rick heeded the call to become an elder bringing a seasoned voice to the session.

Deacons are a new addition to leadership at Valley Hope. Deacons have always been called by the Church to oversee and carry out ministries of service and compassion (Acts 6), from simple duties like that of usher to meeting physical needs of those inside and outside the congregation.

Elders and deacons are nominated by a nominating committee and approved by the congregation based on their character and their training for their particular roles.
