Giving With Hearts Rooted in the Gospel

Where Your Treasure is, There Will Your Heart Be Also

We hate to talk about money in our culture. Funny enough, Jesus talked about money all the time, in fact more than any other subject in the Bible! That’s because, in Jesus’ own words, “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” [Matt. 6:21; Luke 12:34]; Jesus doesn’t care much for rules for their own sake; but he does care about our hearts, and that’s why he talks about money.

The one thing Jesus said he would build was His Church. He called His Church his bride. The Church is God’s ordained means for accomplishing Jesus’ mission to call His lost sheep home.

If we love Jesus, we will love His Church. If we love Jesus, we will love His mission. If we love Jesus, His Church and its mission, we will support it with our money and manpower.

Being Good Stewards

In the Old Testament as well as the New, a tithe is the beginning of what the Lord commands we give to His church [Leviticus 27:30; Matthew 23:23; Luke11:42; Hebrews 7:1-3]. But everything we have comes from God and belongs to Him; we are merely stewards of the blessings He gives us. God encourages and loves generous and cheerful givers [2 Corinthians 9:7].

We give to Jesus’ Church because the church is the local movement of the mission. If we’re not investing in it, we’re not investing in the Gospel.

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
